Meika Ellis
Meika is a lawyer and trademark agent practicing on the unceded and unsurrendered territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation (Ottawa). She brings strength and structure to her practice by layering experience, insight, and intention into each matter she handles.
Trained at both medium and large boutique IP law agencies, Meika’s practice spans a wide range of IP topics: trademarks, copyright, Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Expressions, domain name disputes, industrial designs, licensing, and emerging tech. Whether it’s building up protection (prosecution) or reinforcing defenses (litigation), she’s adept at reinforcing what matters.
As a proud member of the Gwich’in Fort McPherson Band, Meika understands that Western IP systems often fail when asked to support Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Expressions. She actively seeks to learn, collaborate, and build connections in support of Indigenous creators and communities—many of whom have long been excluded from the benefits of conventional legal frameworks.
Meika has had success in all levels of Canadian courts, including: Ontario Small Claims Court, Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada (written submissions only). Her contributions and successes haven’t gone unnoticed: she’s been named in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Canada, and was the inaugural recipient of the Roger T. Hughes Future Leader Award, recognizing her work with IPIC’s Indigenous IP Committee.
Outside the legal world, Meika is fueled by nature. When not working, you can find her with a bike, swimsuit, pair of hiking shoes, a dog, and/or a camera. She loves exploring forests, lakes, and mountains. And she loves riding fast whether on a velodrome or on the road.

Eco-Wellness Officer – Princess
Say hi to Princess, our resident chill expert and unofficial head of emotional sustainability at Pillar IP. With those big brown eyes and a quiet calm, she’s always ready to greet you—especially if there’s an ear scratch involved.
Princess keeps meetings and vibes mellow and grounded, no matter how hectic things get. She’s all about low-emission stress relief: belly rubs in, tension out. And when things get intense? She steps up, cool as ever, ready to handle the big stuff—unless there’s a squirrel. Then all bets are off.
She’s proof that staying calm, focused, and a little playful is key to sustainable success (and good IP strategy).
